When we consider going to college, there are many things that can convince us to go but also many things convincing us not to go to college. Sometimes when we are thinking about going to college we don’t think about the benefits we can receive from a degree. We tend to focus on the negative things that can come from going to college. We should start to consider more positive things than negatives when it comes to a college degree. There are many reasons to go to college; receiving better job opportunities, a chance at earning more money, and being a positive influence on our children and future generations.

With a college degree, we have the chance of receiving more and better job opportunities. Having more job opportunities gives us a better chance at finding a job that we truly enjoy doing and being at. Many places are starting to require a college degree to be acceptable for a job opening. This means that fewer people will be able to be recommended for that job opening if they do not have a college degree. “The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) employment projections shed light on occupations likely to have many opportunities for jobseekers who have a degree. BLS has classified more than 150 occupations that typically require a bachelor's degree for entry. Between 2010 and 2020, these occupations are projected to have more than 8.5 million job openings” (Torpey, 2013). With a college degree, we can have a shot at getting a better job but are also getting a chance at earning more money.

A college degree can open doors for us to earn more money. No one wants to live paycheck to paycheck the rest of their lives. That is very stressful on a person but also their family. Having a college degree can open doors for us to earn more money and having more money can give us more of a financial security for us and our families. Those who have a college degree tend to make more money than those who only have a high school degree. “A recent study from Georgetown University found that, on average, college graduates earn $1 million more in earnings over their lifetime. Another recent study by the Pew Research Center found that the median yearly income gap between high school and college graduates is around $17,500” (Osborn, 2019). A college degree can give us a chance at earning more money, but it also can allow us to influence our children and future generations.

Having a college degree can influence our children and future generations to follow in our footsteps. Every parent wants to be a good influence on their children and even their grandchildren. Getting a college degree can influence our children and their children to investigate going to college to follow in our footsteps. Being a college graduate can be a huge influence on our children. Our kids look up to us to be role models for them and show them the path to go and having that college degree can give them influence to go to college themselves and benefit them and their future kids. College degrees can benefit us in so many ways.

These are just a few of the benefits a college degree can give us. There are so many more reasons and benefits to further our education. There are many reason to go to college; receiving better job opportunities, a chance an earning more money, and being a positive influence on our children and future generations. Choosing to go back to school can be a very difficult decision to make. We may not fully know or understand how it can help us but there are so many benefits to getting a college degree and those are the things that we should be considering.
